My Harp Journey
Growing up a friend of mine did Irish dancing, during one of her concerts a pair of harpists came out, and I was like “Yep, I want to do that.”
It wasn’t until I was twelve that mum found a harp teacher and I had my first lesson.
We rented a harp (Honey) from my teacher and I just kept playing!
I started playing at nursing homes and busking at markets which I really enjoyed, including doing a duet with my grandad on the violin.
When I was fourteen my parents invested in my own harp Cherry!
I continued performing at nursing homes growing my confident with my skill and repertoire.
My courage was tested when I played at a Spring Fair at a small local church, but I was able to pull it off.
I discovered just how much I loved playing irish music, the faster the better, and continued to become more comfortable playing faster songs.
A few soundtracks from my favourite movies also snuck into my practice, including How To Train Your Dragon, Harry Potter, and Lord Of The Rings.
I had a few years off as I focused on my art, building a business and becoming more well known in the area.
Around March 2025, I sat down again and started getting my eye (and fingers) back in!
I’m finding so much joy playing the harp again, and am slowly incorparating it into my business, which I would love for it to play a big part in going forward.
Along with adding even more songs to my repertoire, I’ve started playing at nursing homes again which I am enjoying so much.
I have so many ideas for my harp in the future, I can’t wait to make them happen!
